When tree felling may be necessary
Not every problem tree needs felling — many can be reduced, lifted or thinned. But when a tree is dead, dying, hollow, structurally unsound, in the wrong location, or has caused subsidence, felling is often the only sensible option.
We only recommend felling after a proper inspection.
Diseased or dangerous trees
Ash dieback, honey fungus, phytophthora and various stem decays are all common in the mature tree stock around Bognor Regis. A tree with major decay in the main stem or root plate cannot be made safe by pruning and must be removed before it fails.
Trees too close to buildings
Trees planted decades ago as small specimens can end up dominating small coastal gardens. Sectional dismantling — climbing the tree and lowering timber in pieces — is how we remove trees safely in tight spaces without damaging conservatories, fences or neighbouring property.
Storm damaged trees
Bognor's coastal winds regularly split or snap over-extended sycamores and pines. Once major structural damage is present, felling is usually safer than trying to save the tree, and we'll always be upfront about that.
Large tree felling safety
Larger trees are never simply cut at the base in a domestic garden. We use rigging systems, controlled lowering and — where appropriate — a MEWP so the tree comes down piece by piece, under full control.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need permission to fell a tree in Bognor Regis?
Sometimes. TPOs and conservation areas both restrict felling. We check for you before any work starts.
How long does it take to fell a large tree?
Most domestic tree fellings take a single day. Very large or restricted-access trees may take two.
Do you remove the stump as well?
We offer stump grinding as an optional line on every felling quote so you can decide.
Is felling always the right answer?
No — we often recommend reduction, thinning or bracing as an alternative when the tree can be saved.
Do you take the waste away?
Yes — every quote includes waste removal unless you specifically want the logs left on site.
