Tree Surgeon in Felpham

A historic coastal village on the eastern edge of Bognor Regis, Felpham has literary heritage, thatched cottages and mature seaside garden trees.

A brief history of Felpham

The story behind Felpham's trees

Felpham is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as 'Falcheham' and was granted by King Alfred the Great to the monks of Shaftesbury Abbey.

The poet and artist William Blake lived at Felpham from 1800 to 1803, writing that he found in it 'sweet Felpham for its sweet air' and 'good humoured neighbours'.

The village retained a rural character well into the Victorian era, with orchards, small farms and the church of St Mary at its heart.

Twentieth-century seaside expansion produced the villas, bungalows and mature garden trees — Monterey pines, holm oaks, sycamores — that shape the tree canopy of Felpham today.

Local tree stock

Salt-laden coastal winds and sandy soils make Felpham's mature pines, sycamores and hedges particularly prone to storm damage and wind-shear.
