An exclusive coastal parish immediately west of Bognor Regis, Aldwick is known for its private estates, mature planted gardens and generous tree cover.

A brief history of Aldwick

The story behind Aldwick's trees

Aldwick — 'the old dwelling' — is recorded in early medieval sources and grew slowly as a small farming and fishing hamlet.

It rose to national attention in 1928–29 when King George V convalesced at Craigweil House in Aldwick, an event which led directly to Bognor's 'Regis' title.

The Aldwick Bay Estate, laid out from the 1920s onwards, established the town's distinctive character of large plots, private roads and mature planted trees.

Today Aldwick contains some of the most substantial private gardens on the West Sussex coast, with mature pines, oaks, cedars and hedging requiring specialist care.

Local tree stock

Large plots and exposed coastal positions mean Aldwick work often involves substantial reductions, sectional felling and long-established hedge management.
